-And a quick note...
I just wanted to thank the players again. This year we had no problems whatsoever. I don't know if I have ever seen a group this large get along so well, and I really appreciate it. I know we gave out an award for best sportsman, but I also wanted to acknowledge some other the players that made that decision very hard:
-Tyler Magnuson: He was in the running for the Explosivo! award, and for good reason. He was not only an awesome player(winning a couple of events), but he was truly an awesome person to play as well. I had a number of reports on how much fun and laid back he was. Hopefully we will see him next year, he brought a lot of great things to the table.
-Stu Liming: Stu is just Stu. He is the life of the party and a blast to be around. I would be remiss if I didn't send a thanks out to him for always making the weekend a little more fun.
-Jason Flanzer: Another amazing player...Flanzer is a guy full of energy, ideas, he is always upbeat. There are a few people I would throw into an "Ambassador" role for the game, but he would be one of them. And he is a good sport as well...
-The Iron Agenda: I was shocked these guys didn't drive down in a black van, because they are the A-Team of the Iron Kingdoms. I'll let everyone else argue who will be BA, Hannibal, Face and Murdock...but these guys are awesome. Josh, Dave, Tim, and Flanzer should be commended...and if you don't listen to their podcast then its your loss. By far the best all around PP centric podcast out there.
-Last but not least to all the new players: There were quite a few newer players I saw grinding it out playing and having fun. Sometimes getting thrown into a match with veterans can be daunting, but they stuck it out and were good to go. Hopefully we will see them all next year dominating the scene.

Weekend Championship System
Here is the system we will be using to determine the weekend champion. The system is pretty much unchanged except for a few minor points.
1. Total Tournament Points
2. Dropped Events
3. Total Victory Points
4. Tournaments Won
5. Head to Head record between the people tied
For the weekend events we will be using a 5/3/1 tournament point system. This means 5 Tournament Points for a win, 3 for a tie and 1 for a loss. This will make it easier to determine the final standings for the Weekend Champion. These points will be used to work out weekend champ only. The normal tournament point system will be used during the games (1 point for a win, 0 for a loss or tie).
The first tiebreaker will be the number of dropped events the player has. If a player has dropped from a number of events to maximize Tournament Points, then they will be penalized if tied with another player in total tournament points. (More on this below)
Victory Points will be tracked in all games for various things; they will be used as the next tiebreaker for the Champion award.
The next tiebreaker will be the actual Events won by the players. If someone has won 2 events they would rank higher than someone that only won one event.
The final tiebreaker will be actual head to head records between the players that are tied.
We will track records for the events and people are encouraged to play in as many events as possible. This being said, if people drop from an event that is unfinished to hop in another event to maximize champion points they will be penalized in two ways. One, someone who drops from an event will not be eligible for the free army drawing at the end of the round. Two, those players that drop will be penalized during the second tiebreaker for the championship points.
An example: Player A accumulates 100 Tournament points and plays in 6 events, but dropped early from one event to help get more points. Player B also has 100 points and played in 6 events, but did not drop from any. Player B would get the advantage and win the Championship.
I put a lot of thought in how to police the rounds and events to keep the points straight, but I went with this system. Yes if someone wants to try a run for the champ trophy, they can do it, but I wanted a way to penalize them for trying to break the system. I have no evidence anyone will try this or has tried it in the past, but I just wanted to nip it in the bud before we started.

Specific Events Rules
We are one month away from the fun so I thought I'd give everyone a heads up on some of the special rules for the weekend.
Day 1 (Friday October 16th):
Pretty straight forward. 2 SR4 events and a Mangled Metal/ Tooth & Claw event. If anyone has any questions about these... let me know.
Day 2 (Saturday, October 17th):
Another normal day, only some slight tweaks. The 1000 point event will have the maximum time limit be 135 + 2d6 minutes. We have had the time limit be 2 hours for the last couple of years and it hasn't been an issue, so this should be no problem. The last event Saturday will be the 350pt Hardcore Mangled Metal/Tooth and Claw. This will be just like last year. The army MUST be painted and based. The turn time limit will be 3 minutes and the round length will be 40 minutes.
Day 3 (Sunday, October 18th):
Here is where things get fun...
First we have a Theme Tournament. This event will be judged quite different from a normal event. First the overall winner will be judged by having an army with a good theme (more on that in a moment), do well in the event (win games), and have a painted army.
This event will be 3 rounds only, during these rounds you get points in the following way:
Theme - 50 points possible
Winning – 30 points possible
Painting – 20 points possible
this gives a total of 100 points possible.
The theme will be judged by a group of people (Iron Agenda guys...I'm looking at you..:P), it will be judged on how well the army is built around any theme. ANY theme will be accepted, but armies that exemplify a fluff, fun, or creative list will be the best. For an example, an army built around a Knights Exemplar theme will do better than an Advance Deploy theme.
Playing games will also get points... 10 points for a win, 6 for a draw, 2 for a loss. With this you can get anywhere from 6 to 30 points for this section.
Players will also get to vote on the painting and themes for contribute to the scores for each of the categories.
Finally there is the painting, bring a nicely painted army for a possible 20 points.
Pretty simple.
The other event is the 1:1:1:1 tournament.
This event is a “kill the caster” event where you MUST bring 1 warcaster or warlock, 1 warjack or warbeast, 1 unit and 1 solo...and fit it all into 350 points.
A couple answers to common questions to this event:
Yes, you get any free model that comes with another...so Goreshade CAN use the unit of Bane Thralls, the Old Witch get the Scrap Jack, lesser warlocks (solos) get their beast, etc.
Yes, you may use unit attachments as long as you can fit it in the points.
Tomorrow I will post the specifics on how to win the Weekend Championship.

Giant Pre-GenCon Annoucements!
We are but a few scant days away from the party in Indy so to get the party started I give you a new achievement------------------------>
That's right, the achievement that rewards the people who like to give, or buy...me a drink that is.
Yes you can still the GenCon achievement by hunting me down and asking for a WARMACHINE Weekend button, but this one is for the special few who like to buy their friends (or tournament organizers) a drink. Enjoys the time you have at the con and play a little game with me. I will have a limited supply of the drink buttons. If you see someone with one and buy them a drink, you get the button (yes, if you have the button, you have to give it up). The buttons will float around the con, if you end up with one and come to the Weekend, you get the achievement.
The other announcemtent?
Pre-Registration has begun!!!
That's right! Just head over the the Meta-Games Online store to purchase your weekend pass.
A couple of quick notes. This year we are having the Weekend hosted at G.A.M.E. the first regional gaming convention that is a benefit for the Springfield Arts Council. At the moment we do not have the option for individual event tickets. We are efforting a way to have those available by the time WARMACHINE Weekend is here. I will keep you informed and we will have them up as soon as possible.

Achievement Preview
Above is mock up of what the Achievement buttons will look like. The buttons will be small 1 1/4" buttons so you can pack you shirts/army transport/ whatever with them. Now how you get these buttons is totally on you. You will get one button for each achievement you earn. The total will relate to how many chances you have to will door prizes at the wrap-up of the Weekend. But don't worry, just getting to the Weekend will score you at least one and that means at least one chance to win a prize.
Basically it will break down like this...
One achievement = One Button
One Button = One ticket for a door prize
Five Buttons = Another ticket
Ten Buttons = Another ticket
Fifteen Buttons = Another ticket
...and so on.
So one will get you your first ticket and then you will receive another for every five achievements.
Its going to easy to get the dang things too, so even if you are a sub-par player and just want to come have fun, you will have just as good of a chance to win a prize as other people. This will be a fun distraction to a crazy weekend full of gaming.
As far as the specific achievements go...well...I'm going to publish a full list before the event, but I am still tweaking the specifics. But to give you some examples:
-Medic!(Survive the game with your caster down half their life or more.)
-Why won't they F'ing Die? (Make 3 tough rolls in a role for a single model.)
-Wrench Turner (Field a fully painted army in at least one game of an event)
-You and what army? (Destroy an opposing army until only your opponents' caster is left)
...and there will be MANY more.
Like I said it will be real easy to get these achievements...in fact you can get a few before the Weekend even happens. Take a look at the following list and earn before you get there.
1. Explosivo's First Tournament: I will hand out buttons to the people who make it to Kris Johnson's first official tournament as a Press Ganger. It's at Pulp Fiction Comics in Lee's Summit, MO on August 8th. CLICK HERE for more details.
2. GenCon 2009: Find me at GenCon this year (preferably while I'm not working for PP) on Friday night, Saturday or Sunday and just ask.
3. I'm a Fan!: Become a fan of WARMACHINE Weekend on our Facebook Page
...and there will be a few more (watch the blog for updates).
One more thing...Just to clarify, You have to attend the Weekend to be able to get any prizes. I will be happy to hand out buttons to people who Attend an event I'm at (like GenCon), but I will not register the achievement until you sign up and attend WARMACHINE Weekend. Please no e-mails needing to know if you won a prize just because you own a button. Just attend the event, join in on the fun, and see what happens!
Whew...that's all for now. Please let me know if you have any questions (wmweekend@gmail.com)...time for a nap!
Gah...back!
The last couple of weeks have been trying. I will have from here on some regular updates starting TODAY! I should be able to get a lot more detail concerning the logistics of the event up over this next week. As always if you have any questions, e-mail me at wmweekend @gmail.com.

These aren't the updates you're looking for...
Just a quick note. Due to a minor domestic emergency (nothing major), I may not be able to get the events and achievement list up tonight. I'll more than likely be away from the computer most of the day, but I should be able to have it listed by tomorrow night or Thursday morning at the latest. Feel free to keep sending ideas (wmweekend@gmail.com) and I'll update ASAP.
...carry on.

Looking for help-photographer
Warmachine Weekend is looking for someone (or a team of someones) who can take and upload pics to this blog during the weekend. That person would need a digital camera (one that can take good macro pics) and the knowledge of how to use it.
Responsibilities would include taking pics of cool minis, feature match reports, and general event coverage.
There will be perks for these special people so email me if this sounds like something you may want to do (wmweekend@gmail.com)

WMWeekend '09 Achievements!?!
In years past we have had a few different way to give away prizes at Warmachine Weekend. We have had a big raffle, just gave them out like door prizes, given them to winners, etc. This year we are doing something a little different. After reading the rules for the Monsterpocalypse "All You Can Eat" event I thought about how fun it sounded. For those who don't know, you get achievements and then get prizes based on how many achievements get for playing through the course of the day. I also thought about how everyone seems to like the achievement system in World of Warcraft, X-Box Live, and all the rest. So...
This year the "door prizes" will be given out (sort of) based on the number of achievements you get. To be specific, we are going to give raffle tickets based on how many you can get over the course of the weekend. More than likely it will be a system where you will get a ticket for 1, another one at 5, another at 10, and so on. The specific details will be worked out later.
Also to hand out the prizes, we will do the drawing after the events on Sunday morning. This means we will more than likely move a short event to the Sunday morning slot and after do the prizes and crown the Weekend champ. More on scheduling to come...
So spread the word, what I need from everyone for the next couple of weeks is the following:
Send me a list of achievements you think should be on the final list. These can range from normal game condition awards (Win 3 Mosh Pit scenarios) to crazy things (Get off my lawn-Kill an opposing caster in melee with one of the "old' minis like Sevy, Doomshaper, etc.). Send me you ideas at: wmweekend@gmail.com and in a couple of weeks you will see the final list.
Now the fun part. Each achievement will get you a corresponding button to go with it. So by the end of the weekend, some people may have their army transports or t-shirts full of them.
Get some buttons/achievements before October 16th! I will be at some events over the summer where you can pick up a promotional WMWeekend button that corresponds for the event. Bring the button with you to the weekend in October and POW! instant achievement...all for just hunting me out at the event. I will be handing the first ones out at GenCon, so make sure to hunt me down. Also, former WMWeekend champs will get a special button to show off to everyone, I will hopefully have those ready by GenCon as well.
So you have your assignments...get to work!
Also, we are still planning on doing the "win an army" prize to a random person that finishes each event.

Date!
We have a date! Warmachine Weekend will be part of G.A.M.E. this year. What is G.A.M.E.? For starts its the Gaming Arts Media Expo, or for most all of us its a new convention for the Springfield area that covers everything from miniature games, board games, card games, anime, and all other of the "geeky" arts.
I'll post some new information about game soon. This will include how we will handle registration. Rest easy, being part of Warmachine Weekend, you will not be asked to pay to take part in two conventions. But like I said, more info coming soon...find me at Diecon this weekend and I'll give you the skinny.

Looking for PGers
I am putting out a call to Press Gangers that may be thinking about attending this year. I am looking for people to help run/judge events. These would include Warmachine, Hordes, Monsterpocalypse, IK RPG games and maybe more.
If you are interested send me your information (name, e-mail, etc.) and I'll keep you informed when the events are finalized so you can pick some to run.
Running events can get you discounted or free entry to the weekend, normal Press Gang benefits, plus other surprises.
E-mail me at wmweekend@gmail.com for more info.
Thanks...Carl

Just around the corner...
Well, as of right now it is May 30th. October doesn't seem like its that close, but it will be here before you know it. I decided to set up this "blog" to be the information hub for Warmachine Weekend at least for now (to be honest, its a real easy way for someone who knows nothing about websites to get the ball rolling).
What I need from you are suggestions! I have most of the line-up of events done for this year, but I am always looking for something new. Feel free to email me at wmweekend@gmail.com and let me know.
